Deal Or No Deal

Deal or No Deal

When I was a kid I was selfish. Kids are like that, especially with their toys. As a father, I see this every day. My kids have a hard time sharing with each other. One will get something new, and when the other wants to check it out, the possessiveness takes over and the fighting begins. And trying to reason with a 5 year old and a 1 ½ year old is like trying to get blood from a stone.

Sometimes we as Christians keep our gifts to ourselves as well. We don’t like to share with people our faith for various reasons. “They’ll label me as weak or a Jesus Freak.” So what!! What is wrong with that? James 2:1-9 says: “1My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism. 2Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. 3If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet," 4have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

5Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? 6But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? 7Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?

8If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "Love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing right. 9But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.”

I am just as guilty as the next as the next person of this. There have been many time when I have had the opportunity to share Christ with someone and didn’t do it. Jeff Howe and I went golfing on Wednesday night and were paired up with two gentlemen to help keep things at a decent pace. There was a perfect opportunity that passed me by. So I’ll make a deal with you. I will do my best to convey Christ with someone at every opportunity I get if you promise to do the same. Deal or no deal?
