I was at the Heart Support Tour about three weeks back, and in having an opportunity to talk to several of the bands, I got to find out what was going on behind the scenes. Now I'm no stranger to how concerts work. Long hours on the road, time spent away from family, lack of sleep, etc. But this tour, in particular, really struck me with how much these bands go through just to minister to the rest of us live in person.
Spoken suffered problems with broken down vehicles and a lot of sickness. One of the band members was out for almost two weeks with pneumonia and Matt's (the lead singer) 15 month old son was very sick for about a week. And, while they could have just thrown in the towel on the whole tour, they stuck it out. In fact, the day that I saw them perform was the first day they had all been together on the tour since the start. You wouldn't have known, though. Their show was amazing, as well as the others that performed.
Members from Family Force 5, Falling Up and This Beautiful Republic had also been sick, and right towards the end of the tour, I found out that FF5 and TBR also had vehicle issues and had to reschedule a few of their shows. I'm also sure that Heart Support, the ministry that they were partnering with, also faced challenges along the way.
So let me challenge you with this thought, the next time you go out to a concert, remember to keep those who are putting on the show in prayer and continue to pray for them long after the show is done.
That's all for now.
